ATREE Conference on Conservation Science and Sustainable Development

ATREE marked its 20th year by organising the ATREE@20 Conference on Conservation Science and Sustainable Development on 24 and 25 January, 2017 at the JN Tata Auditorium in the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. The event began with the Ambassador of Norway, His Excellency Nils Ragnar Kamsvag,  Dr Kamaljit Bawa, ATREE's Founding Trustee, and Ms. Rohini Nilekani, Governing Board Member, ATREE,  releasing the book “Transcending Boundaries: Reflecting on Twenty Years of Action and Research at ATREE”, edited by Dr. Ankila Hiremath, Dr. Nitin Rai, and Mr. Ananda Siddhartha of ATREE.

The two-day conference featured key-note addresses, panel discussions, talks on biodiversity, forests, water, and climate change, three-minute speed talks by ATREE’s young scholars, posters on a range of social and environmental issues, an exhibition of pictures from ATREE’s areas of work, and an installation that depicted ATREE’s history and work through models, games, films, and posters.

TN Khoshoo Memorial Award

The annual T N Khoshoo Memorial Award was given to Mr. K J Joy of the Society for Promoting Participative Ecosystem Management (SOPPECOM) in recognition of his work as an activist and academic in the area of water management and governance, spanning 35 years. The Award function featured a lively policy round-table on the interlinking of rivers.
