Promotion of Nenmeni Chittunda as a part of responsible farming practices in Kuttanad
As a part of spreading responsible agricultural practices in Kuttanad, ATREE CERC in association with KCPM, Moncompu organized a demonstration and training program on "Nenmeni Chittunda" atChoottumaly padasekharam, Thalavadi. Nenmeni chittunda is a method of pelleting the seeds in a nutrient mixture and the germinated seeds are then transplanted in the field. The pelleting helps to overcome the stress, increases the microbial population, reduces the pest and disease incidence, and also ensures maximum productivity. It was developed by Sri. Aji Kumar, a farmer scientist from Nenmeni, Waynad District. In this method, only 2.7 to 5kg is required to plant 1 Acre of land and fertilizer can be reduced to 50% while the increase in yield by 50% is promised.
