Relating to wetlands

The exhibition was held at Alappuzha, Vembanad Kol, at the time of the Ramsar Sites Stakeholders Meet and Wetland Conservation Seminar in March 2013. Besides images, it showcased conservation models, products and traditions of stakeholders from various Ramsar wetlands across the country.

The seminar itself was attended by a cross section of participants claiming diverse stakes to this resource, including farmers, fishermen, environmentalists, naturalists, researchers, scientists, teachers, politicians, staff from government and nongovernment organizations from across the country.

Conservation initiatives included hydrological interventions for auto recruitment of juvenile fish from sea (Chilika Lake); organic farming to reduce the pesticide load from Harike Lake area; plastic removal and cleaning campaigns in Keoladeo National Park and Vembanad-Kol; water hyacinth and siltation removal by local community in Kanjli; bunds and turtle protection camps in Point Calimere Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary. Moisture retention work (artificial glacier, pasture development (Tregonella cultivation) in Chandertal Wetland. Home stays and eco-certification meeting in Tsomoriri.

The event was supported by the Ministry of Environment and Forests. WWF India, Department of Environment and Climate change, Govt. of Kerala and Department of Ports, Govt. of Kerala were event partners. The meet was held at Alappuzha, Vembanad Kol wetlands, the largest Ramsar site in India, 3-5 March 2013.
