Economic Research Analyst : TOFI
ATREE is a leading non-profit, non-governmental research and knowledge institution in Asia and has been consistently ranked among the top 20 think tanks globally. ATREE is a member of the 5-year “Trees Outside of Forests in India (TOFI)” consortium, which aims to identify ecologically suitable, socio-culturally responsible and economically viable mechanisms for scaling up trees outside of forests (TOF). The consortium includes scientific and research institutions such as World Agroforestry (ICRAF), Gramin Vikas Vigyan Samiti (GRAVIS), the Central Agroforestry Research Institute (CAFRI), the National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research (NIAP), the Network for Certification and Conservation of Forests (NCCF), The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), and the Forest College and Research Institute (FC&RI), Mettupalayam. The consortium will identify policy, economic, capacity, and information-related barriers and opportunities for recognising the potential of scaling TOF.
In this project, ATREE is tasked with providing research and knowledge support on ecological, socio-economic and policy variables to the consortium for identifying and scaling the potential of TOF. ATREE is also contributing to designing TOF innovation hubs for seven states, such as Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh, in partnership with the consortium members.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead efforts on modeling demand and supply patterns linked to environmental change.

Lead research on sustainability in agroforestry systems in select TOFI states.

Coordinate research and development of knowledge products for outreach and capacity building for government, research institutions, and civil society organizations (CSOs).
Essential Qualifications:

A Master’s degree in Economics or Agricultural Economics, Environmental Science, Forestry, Natural Resource Management or a related field with substantial experience (3+ years) in researching agricultural policy or other land-based policy.

Demonstrated experience reviewing academic and gray literature and deriving actionable inputs from diverse literature (co-authoring reports, briefs etc.).

Demonstrated ability in documenting, reporting and monitoring project progress.
Desirable Qualifications:

Experience with web-scraping, cleaning data and converting unstructured data into structured formats.

An understanding or interest in ecosystem restoration and biodiversity conservation.
