Urban expansion and hydrology
How do cities and their overexpansion affect the hydrological systems? In a new paper published in Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Discussions, ATREE's Veena Srinivasan and Sharachchandra Lele, in collaboration with collaborators from UC Berkeley, discuss how streams have changed their courses in the Arkavathy watershed between 1973-2010. The paper highlights the lacuna of data with respect to streams and reservoirs of the watershed while providing an opportunity to understand the hydrological changes in heavily managed watersheds with low data on stream flow.
