Certificate Course in Conservation Science

Certificate Course in Conservation Science

ATREE's Academy for Conservation Science and Sustainability Studies conducted a certificate course in Conservation Science for young professionals, senior graduate and post‐graduate students between 4th and 15th July 2016.

This was a comprehensive field based course on conservation science and allied social sciences needed to build a conceptually strong framework for effective conservation. The course focused on conservation issues at the regional level but with a global perspective.

The first two days offered lectures and discussions on holistic perspectives and the latest techniques in conservation science. Specific topics included genetics, taxonomy, citizen science, social science methods, urbanizing landscapes, and the impact of conservation policy on local communities. This was followed by week-long field‐based training in and around the Kalakad‐Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR).

The Course is supported by a core grant by the Tata Social WelfareTrust (TSWT).
