Training workshop on Open Data Kit (ODK) for Field Researchers - 2018

Training workshop on Open Data Kit (ODK) for Field Researchers - 2018

12.12.2018, Wednesday to 14.12.2018, Friday
ATREE Auditorium
Overview

A systematic approach to the collection and maintenance of empirical data is crucial for effective field research. The addition of data acquisition tools such as compasses, maps, field sensors, voice and video recorders to field inventories improves the accuracy and speed of data collection in the field.

Open Data Kit (ODK) is a free and open source tool that is designed to create, collect and manage field data by creating spatial and non-spatial forms. ODK, therefore, offers a platform that combines the use of data acquisition tools with the integrity of digital data, and is one of the most widely used tool for digital data collection by field researchers.

This 3 day course aims to introduce users to the principles and structure of the ODK platform, form design, customization and server configuration.

Who can participate

This certificate course is open to anyone who wishes to collect field data. Owing to the limited number (30) of seats, we will be accepting applications on a first-come first-served basis. No prior knowledge of mobile data collection is required.

Workshop Schedule
  • 12th December 2018: Introduction to ODK and hands-on sessions
  • 13th December 2018 : Field trip and compilation of field data
  • 14th December 2018 : Visualization and analysis of field data
