Community Conservation

Community Conservation

ATREE’s Regional Initiatives work closely with local communities to generate knowledge and contribute solutions that are pertinent to and usable by them.

Our Communities

ATREE has set up Community-based Conservation Centres, or CCCs, to produce research pertinent to and usable by local communities and to provide a space for local communities to engage with us. The CCCs support:

  • Long-term ecological monitoring
  • Research by doctoral students and interns
  • Collaboration with communities on conservation and sustainable livelihoods
  • Interactions with local governance institutions
  • Conservation education programmes
  • Activities of other research organizations

ATREE has five CCCs in the Western Ghats stretch, ranging in character from peri-urban to Protected Area forest to Ramsar wetland.
