Internship/ traineeship opportunities at ATREE
Overview
ATREE conducts research in the areas of Climate Change Mitigation & Development, Forests & Governance, Water, Land & Society, Landscape, Livelihoods & Conservation, Ecosystem Services & Human Wellbeing, and Biodiversity Management & Conservation Planning and offers internships for interested individuals. ATREE’s approach to interdisciplinary science accommodates a diversity of interests, knowledge and talent and offers a number of options for fieldwork. ATREE has a set up a number of Community-based Conservation Centres at Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Tiger Reserve, Male Mahadeshwara Hills and Kanakapura in Karnataka, Agasthyamalai (Kalakad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve) in Tamil Nadu and Vembanad in Kerala where interns could consider conducting their work.
Our research facilities also include labs in Ecoinformatics, Conservation Genetics, Biosystematics and Water and Soil Quality which offer exciting internship opportunities. In addition to conducting research, interns may also be interested in contributing to ATREE’s outreach and education initiatives. ATREE internships are aimed at a diverse set of applicants—including undergraduates, postgraduates, mid-level professionals in the areas of environment and development, government employees, policymakers and educators. The Academy for Conservation and Sustainability Studies helps match intern interests with requirements on current ATREE projects and initiatives. Applicants should be willing to commit to a minimum duration of 8-weeks to be considered for an ATREE internship.
Interns’ work and travel to field sites and other offices may be coordinated based on the specific internship. The intern should be in communication with the ATREE internship coordination person, prior to their arrival.
Eligibility
- Academic background: Undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate students with an interest in sustainable development, community forestry, agronomy, ecology, biology, environmental education, rural development, conservation, ecological economics , environmental sociology or allied subjects.
- Skills and experience: A flexibility and willingness to work are key requirements for an internship. ATREE is involved in various projects and programmes in research, in the fields listed below as well as in outreach and education initiatives. Interns are expected to have good organizational skills, writing and communication skills, computer skills, field experience relating to intern's academic interests and an ability to work independently.
- Language requirements: The candidate should be able to speak, read and write English.
