ATREE is a leading non-profit, non-governmental research and knowledge institution in Asia and has been consistently ranked among the top 20 think tanks globally. ATREE is a member of the 5-year “Trees Outside of Forests in India (TOFI)” consortium, which aims to identify ecologically suitable and economically viable mechanisms for scaling up trees outside of forests (TOF). The consortium includes CIFOR-ICRAF, Gramin Vikas Vigyan Samiti (GRAVIS), the Central Agroforestry Research Institute (CAFRI), the National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research (NIAP), the Network for Certification and Conservation of Forests (NCCF), The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), and the Forest College and Research Institute (FC&RI), Mettupalayam. 

ATREE co-leads the research and knowledge support in the consortium and works with TOF innovation hubs in Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh to identify and scale the potential of TOF.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Co-design and conduct field experiments and questionnaire surveys to collect ecological data from agroecosystems and TOF.

  2. Test and implement established protocols to measure agrobiodiversity parameters.

  3. Collaborate with team members to analyze and interpret data and contribute to peer-reviewed publications and project reports.

  4. Liaise and coordinate with local stakeholders, including government, state partners and TOF hubs, to carry out fieldwork in TOFI states.

Essential Qualifications:

  1. A Master’s degree in Environmental Studies, Agroforestry, Forestry, Natural Resource Management or a related field with substantial experience in fieldwork.

  2. Proficiency in field data collection methods such as GPS mapping, transect surveys and quadrat sampling.

  3. Experience in using field-based scientific equipment such as GPS and data loggers.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Experience with open-source geospatial technologies like QGIS, ODK and Google Earth, cleaning data and converting unstructured data into structured formats.

  2. An understanding or interest in ecosystem restoration and biodiversity conservation.

  3. Demonstrated ability to write and present information concisely and compellingly in peer-reviewed or popular formats.
