Dr. Siddappa Setty is an ethnobotanist, holds a PhD from the University of Mysore. Committed researcher-practitioner, who has bridged science, policy and practice to achieve sustainable development in the tribal areas of Western Ghats. Coordinating two community conservation centers of ATREE in Western and Eastern Ghats. Over a 27-year career, he has made tremendous contributions to sustainable resource use through long-term monitoring of forest resources such as honey bees, several non-timber forest products (NTFP), community and conservation, creation of livelihood opportunities, forest restoration, invasive species and management. I focused on ecological, social and economic aspects of forest resource use, sustainable agriculture and participatory resource monitoring. He has trained more than 10,000 indigenous harvesters on sustainable use of forest resource and working closely with indigenous communities. Created livelihood opportunities for local people through invasive species and NTFPs. He has published around 35 peer-reviewed research papers and manuals.

- In 2005, ATREE was awarded the prestigious Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam award for Environment Conservation.
- In 2009, ATREE was awarded the Ryutaro Hashimoto APFED (Asia Pacific Forum for Environment and Development) Gold Award for its flagship program on "Promoting the ingenious use of a plant invasive, Lantana camara, to enhance the livelihood of the forest dwelling communities in India".
- The prestigious Gunnerus Sustainability Award received by ATREE’s founder Dr. Kamaljit S Bawa in 2012, described ATREE as an ‘innovative, knowledge-based conservation and research organization for sustainability science’
- In 2016, ATREE received the Distinguished Service Award from the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) Asia Section, in recognition of ATREE's extraordinary contributions to conservation of biodiversity and capacity building for sustainable development in India.
- In 2019, ATREE received the prestigious UNESCO Sultan Qaboos award for Environmental Preservation in recognition of its socially-just environmental conservation and sustainable development activities.
Travel grants:
- Received travel grant from Dorabji Tata Trust, Bombay and Conservation International, USA, to present paper on Agroforestry on enhancing diversity of trees on farms proximal to wildlife sanctuaries: 'Lessons from working with small farmers' at 2nd World Congress at Nairobi, Kenya, in August 2009, grant received 1 lakh INR.

- Major invasive plants in India -- Lantana camara, Eupatorium, and Parthenium hysterophorous and their impact on biodiversity. Participants identified the spread of lantana as a major issue in their forest areas. They noted that bird dispersal of seeds, tree cover loss and soil condition were some of the major reasons for lantana spread workshop with the Soliga community in July 2010.
- Facilitated University of Kansas students study abroad visit to BRHills and Bandipur restoration project. And gave a talk on Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood work carried out in BRT and restoration work in Bandipur, June 2010.
