Genetic diversity of Phyllanthus indofisheri from 3 protected areas of Karnataka, India

Pressure on NTFP species is contributing to substantial loss of genetic diversity. This loss may be degrading the integrity and fitness of the harvested populations. The goal is to address the issue of genetic resource conservation and sustainable utilization, especially the conflict between human dependencies and the resulting ecological costs. In particular, the project aims to develop ecological and genetic resource models for the conservation and sustainable use of Phyllanthus indofisheri, an important Non-Timber Forest Produce (NTFP), leading to a practical policy framework for implementation of management protocols for sustainable use.
